air conditioning inspections
In England and
Wales, the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations, Article
20, requires that air conditioning systems are inspected by
accredited personnel to assess their energy performance. By 4th
January 2009 all systems over 250kW require their first
inspection to be completed. By January 2011 all systems over
12kW require inspecting.
The air conditioning inspection is focused
on
reducing the carbon emissions of your air conditioning systems
but there is a commercial spin off; potential reductions in
running costs. The inspections aims to assess the system and suggest
economically viable efficiency improvements and experience shows
that 5% to 25% efficiency improvements are possible,
dependant on the condition of the system and how well the system
has been maintained.
The process involves a review of the
information and records that you have on the systems. This is
followed by a survey and the production of a report that will
give you a picture of what air conditioning systems you have,
what they’re doing and what they should be doing. Most
important, the report gives you suggestions for potential
improvements of the efficiency of the air conditioning systems
together with likely reductions in running costs and carbon
emissions.
It could be easy to look on these
inspections as just another expense, but there are genuine
financial and ethical benefits to had. You'll also be left with a
good level of information to help you maximise the potential of
a significant asset in your building, which has a significant
effect on staff and customer comfort.
